who framed mary magdalene?
The first witness to the Resurrection-as all four gospel writers agree-was a woman whose name and reputation have become so misunderstood, misinterpreted, and misconstrued over the centuries that she is more commonly, though erroneously, remembered as a prostitute than as the faithful first bearer of the Good News. This article is about how it all came to pass.

One of the most striking sayings of Jesus is perhaps His simplest. It is one word, “Mary.” He is not referring to His mother or Mary of Bethany or any of the several other Marys of the Gospels. In this post, Mary of Magdala's story is considered in its historical context.

November 7 is the current feast of St. Didacus, a latinized form of the name Diego. (The traditional feast day was November 12). San Diego (1400 to 1463), was a Franciscan lay brother who exemplified the reform movement of his time. He never learned to read or write and devoted his life to prayer, penance, and the service of the poor and the sick. San Diego’s life is an ironic example of a man who found fame and posterity by renouncing them. This blog post tells of his life and work.

Saint of the Day: St. Bonaventure - July 15
Tagged by

Faith and reason are often seen as opposites in today’s controversies. Some people say that faith has to be subject to reason and others say that there can be no reason if one has faith. St. Bonaventure shows not only how faith and reason are reconciled but how they are fulfilled in each other and lead us to that transcendent mystical encounter beyond words and comprehension for which we were all created.

In Postmodern Pilgrims Leonard Sweet provides a succinct and popular introduction to postmodern culture and how churches can respond to the spiritual needs of postmodern young adults. He presents an EPIC model of doing church: Experiential, Participative, Image-driven, and Connected. “Postmodern Pilgrims is an attempt to show the church how to camp in the future in the light of the past.” Sweet argues that ministry in the twenty-first century has more in common with the first century than with the modern world that is collapsing all around us.
